6 Things #70: April
Hey friends, how’s it going? I’m here with a fresh dose of 6 things that've been happening/keeping my heart happy lately (in and outside of music). If you’re new here, hello! Welcome to my newsletter. Thanks so much for being here and spending a few moments of your month with me ❤️ Let’s get crackin’, shall we?
The blossom is out 🌸 the hailstones are still making appearances (good ol’ British weather for ya) and Spring is blooming in more ways than one. I am very biased because my birthday is in Spring, but it really is my fave season of the year. April felt like a big exhale. It’s maybe cliche, but stepping back for the first time in a long time and opening myself up to whatever comes next has brought me so much peace?! It was a month of diving back into creative projects, days doing very little (without guilt!!), soaking in new inspiration and allowing ideas to breathe. Here are my highlights:
1. 🪩 Did someone say remix?!
My dance alter-ego project soft centre is making a comeback this year and I was honoured to spend some of April working on a remix for one of my fave NE artists (all will be revealed!). Turning a gorgeous 6/8 tune into a moody, 4-to-the-floor dance banger was SO much fun and I’m really proud of how it’s turned out. Start your guesses!! The pre-save link will be with you soon 🪩 I’m mega excited for you to hear it.
2. 🎹 🎸 Tori Amos at O2 City Hall
I went with my dad, mum and Joe to see Tori Amos LIVE last month AND she played Ruby Through the Looking Glass!!! 😭😭 Truly living out a childhood dream. Ruby is probably my favourite song of hers (I’ve loved Scarlet’s Hidden Treasures EP since being a kid) and her setlist changes every single night, so it was A) a very welcomed surprise and B) even more special hearing it live. I can die happy. A magical show.
3. 📺 Project Hail Mary
An incredible film that I think everyone should see. Project Hail Mary manages to achieve modern-day sci-fi with Star-Wars-era nostalgia. The storyline is BEAUTIFUL, deeply moving and the perfect balance between humour, seriousness and tugging at the ol’ heart strings (I cried for 40-50% of it, but I cry at a lot of things so don’t let that put you off 😂). I loved it SO much, it sticks with you and I feel like it’s a movie I’ll come back to time and time again. A must-watch!!
4. 🎸 Repping (again!)
Show repping is no stranger to 6 Things, but sometimes the freelance work I do really doesn’t feel like work and it’s a pure joy. I had the honour of repping two mint shows in Middlesbrough last month: The Howl & The Hum (solo) and Loren Heat - very different vibes, but equally great shows. I feel very lucky to have played a small part in making those events run smooth and helping all the artists involved have the best experience/show they can. A huge highlight.
5. 💿 Album: TEED - Always With Me
An album I’ve been spending time with from one of my all-time favourite artists, TEED (formerly known as Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs). His latest album Always With Me is full of good-feel electronic music. If you’re looking for a soundtrack to Summer ‘26, let it be this!! My current faves are Endless, Desire and Piece of Me.
6. 🍲 Dish & a vat of minestrone
In all the Dish episodes I’ve watched/listened to, I’ve never felt called to actually make any of the food they serve their guests - until now! I made a VAT of minestrone soup (courtesy of the Sarah Pascoe episode) in the biggest pan I own, my trusty wok 😂, and it was delicious. Were Joe and I sick of minestrone soup 3 meals in? Absolutely. Will I make it again? Definitely. If you’re on the hunt for a new recipe to try or fancy giving this one a go, I highly recommend a peruse through the Dish recipes!
So, they're my 6 things for April! What have you been your highlights recently? Any recommendations? I’d love to hear from you.
Until my next update, you know where to find me 😎
Big love, Jodie x

I loved Project Hail Mary too Jodie, cried lots! Will definitely have a go at making that Minestrone soup. Tori Amos sounded amazing. It's brilliant when you get to see someone you love live. Spring is my favourite time of year too. My garden is an abundance of flowers. I find May a hopeful month. Take care love Michelle
